Match won by Centaurs by 5 wickets
Things were looking up early in the week with a competitive 11 named on Tuesday evening. Then it all went pear shaped, down to six players by Thursday morning - panic stations! Eventually Saturday arrived managing to scratch together 10 players. With Centaurs below us on the ladder, confidence was still high with the belief we had the firepower to get the job done. Once again it was a familiar tale, batting first and again struggling to post a competitive first innings score. The only bright note on the innings was a superb maiden half-ton by Fitzy opening the batting. He showed us all how to do it, dismissed near the end with 73 to his name. New signing Andrew Bester (South African connection of Brownies) put together a hard hitting 26 in the dying overs to get us over the 150 mark - well done Andy, hope to see more of you. And that was about it...never going to be enough at PKVR2 unless someone stood up and was counted with the leather in hand.
Mohsin and Bob opened the bowling putting down seven very tight overs a piece - 2 for 60 at drinks - well in the contest! Apart from our batting, our other achilles heal for the season, our change bowling was where the game was going to be won or lost. Alas too many wides, four balls, one or two dropped chances etc saw Centaurs get away from us, eventually chasing us down with 5 wickets in hand and 5 overs to spare - almost a carbon copy of the Tartars match!
Positives, not many - a very disappointing result all in all, but hearty congratulations to our 'new' opener Fitzy, great performance mate!
Two league matches before Christmas at Mission Road (a much happier hunting ground for us) with good player availability - 2 wins and we are back amongst things and looking good for the New Year.............
