Kai Tak vs. Subcont.

Kai Tak 5 for 226 (35 overs)

Suncont 3 for 227 (30 overs)

Suncont win by 7 wickets.

A huge turn out at Staunton's and lots of banter - spirits were high before heading off to our bogey ground PKVR 2. For once we were gladfor a chilly overcast day as we donned our new Kai Tak sweaters - the boys looking resplendent in the the 2 tone blue 'v-necks'!Win the toss, lets bat. Left/right combination of Mohsin and Carl march out and set about building a solid opening stand. Some dodgy running between wickets ensues early on, but the boys soon settle into a groove and we take a drink at none for 88. Looking for 100 with wickets hand at the break, so great start lads. A couple of overs after the break sees Carl looking to lift the run rate and is well (read flukily) caught at deep mid. 43 to his name, well done! Mohsin, over the Mister Reliable this season looks to be cruising towards a second successive ton before he is adjudged leg before for 73. What can I say Mohs, you're having the season of your life. Steve and Bob (who is elevated up the order) are the perfect combination to see us towards a competitive total of 250. Steve unfortunately holes out looking for the boundary, and Ellis joins Ward. Bob now has his eye in, and I look to turn the strike over to him and enjoy witnessing some fantastic clean six hitting. (We won't mention the one that nearly decapitated me!). Ward eventually departs for a quick fire 45 and Morls and Ellis take us through to 35 (almost) with some cheeky running between wickets, laced with some boundaries.226 at the close, maybe 20 or 30 short of where we wanted to be but definitely something to defend.

Morls and Mohs are tossed the new ball and have us off to a great start. Carl takes a screamer at slip off Naqvi and Subcont are 1 for not many. Tight bowling from both ends finally sees a lofted drive to mid off where Duncs snaffles the chance. 2 down, here we go boys! With 3 and 4 at the crease we proceed to be given a lesson in batsmanship. A joy to watch if only we weren't on the receiving end. A couple of sharp chances go down early on with this pair, and before long it's all over. Too many long hops and 'hit me' balls, we don't look like taking a wicket. Stevie has a roll towards the end and much to everyone's horror, chimes in. Now I have no excuse not to bowl him in the future!! We are soon put out of our misery and trudge off rather disconsolately but in the 'de-brief' soon realise that although we didn't play to our ability, Subcont are No. 2 on the ladder for a reason. In the wash-up, we didn't quite get enough runs, but at the end of the day our bowling was too loose against class batsmen and nowhere near penetrating enough.

Well done to Carl, really looking the goods now mate at the top of the order and Mohsin once again - great stuff! Well bowled Morls - a top spell and bloody unlucky not to spear a couple more of them out early on, and the end result could have been completely different.

Heads up lads and let's get ourselves back on track at the KCC next

week, and finish the league season full of running!

Go the Tak!!

Dave
