Kai Tak win!!!
Well i could let the scoresheet speak for itself but i cant help myself!!!! A fantastic Kai Tak win against the League champions.
With the dark clouds always threatening, rain did disrupt the start of the game. With about an hour lost to rain it was decided to start again in a 20/20 formatt. Batting first we knew we had to set a big total as they had the likes of Ankur Sharma and Raul Shamambus who averages 122 in Sat comps!! Andy Bester looked like he was up for it but went early. Mal and yours truly then took the ineffective bowling to task. Mal was in devastating form, even his edges were going to the boundary!!! It was a pleasure to watch and i was quite happy knocking the ball around at the other end. One of biggest knocks this year Mal got his ton off about half the amount of balls, great knock Mal!!!! I finally realised the illusive 50 but fell in the last few overs trying to knock it out of the park again!!! S.Campbell 60. Our 2nd wicket partnership costing SubCont 176 runs!!! The big turnout for us was the return of our Cup winning Capt, Tiku. I didnt leave him much cricket to play but he managed a quick fire 10n.o. In one of our best batting performance we hit 228 off our 20 overs at just over 11 an over!!!! Mal remained 137 n.o and looked quite weather beaten at the end!!!
So knowing we had done a great job it was know up to our bowling and fielding to get us over the line. Looking around, there was no Morls, no Williams, no Mohsin, no Fidel, there was though a bunch of guys willing to give it a go. When i turned to Evan Summerfield and told him he was opening up with Tiku. I didnt get the response i would have liked, i think it went a bit like, "you are fucking joking me arent you??" They did start well and it wasnt a good day for your bowling averages, they were on track with the run rate and when their first wicket fell, things looked a bit grim as Raul came out to join Sahrma. Well they got going and it was bloody hard to know where to bowl and where to put fielders. We did have a chance with Sharma when Simon Wall in cow corner got behind one but saw it go to ground!!! I must admit that made me have that sinking feeling, but this is Kai Tak, we see the games through!!! Fitzy came in and bowled his flippers, doosras and wrong uns. I brought myself on the other end to keep the pace off the ball. Then the big one. Sharma seeing his name in lights came down to Fitzy only to have Fitzy bowl the ball down the leg side and Mal Brown, feeling no stiffness from his big innings took a fantastic stumping!!! One down one to go. The wickets started to tumble as the big run rate was always putting them under pressure. When Tiku was brought back on he didnt let me down, bowlin a tight line and length saw him pick up 3 wickets (incl Raul). Another one to Fitzy, big hitting Kris Gopal lbw, big wicket!!! Then the big one. Raul trying to get his team over the line shot one straight at George Edmunds who took one would argue the most important catch of the season. It was hit like a rocket but Georges safe hands were there to gobble it up!! Euphoria!!! We had a big sniff now and knowing the were a couple of players short also helped our situation. Evo was brought back on and bowled an excellent 2nd last over with them still needing about 30 odd. Then Tiks was thrown the ball for the final over with them needing 20 odd. Their batsmen werent up to the task and we saw it home with them 12 short!!!!!
It was a great effort by all, everyone put their all into it and it was a pleasure to Captain this game. The fielding was very good and we caught all but one that went in the air. Mal Brown really set this one up for us and then the rest of us saw it through. Bring on the silverware!!!!
Man of the Match: Mal Brown.
