Sat 08th Oct, Vs Nomads at HKCC
Kai Tak 158, M.Brown 55
Nomads 5/159.
Well the score says it all. Not a good day for the Tak with many parts of our game coming apart. After a week of thinking of bowling first knowing that was where our strengths were, it came on the day that with the temps hitting 30 deg and none of our bowlers looking the least bit interested in going out to bowl, the toss was won and bat we did. Thats about where it all fell apart. We opened up with Mohsin and myself and after 5 overs we were only on 4 runs. With Angry pills bowling his nippy inswingers and Toby Brown at the other end bowling a teasing line just outside off, it was hard work. This was not helped by the fact that i decided to use my body instead of my bat!! And yes i am feeling it today. The pressure soon got the better of me and my old style slog shot had me walking back to the pavilion after 14 balls and 0 runs!!!! Mohsin and Brown looked like they wee going to take the game back to them until Mohsin skied one and was out soon after for 11. The fun begun for Kai Tak then when Brown and the ever impressive Ward took to the change bowlers and Brown scoring 23 off the last over before drinks had us well and truly back in the game. 17 overs 2-102. Brown soon after notched up another fine 50 but lost his cool quickly after, out for 55. As a little tester and knowing the fine form with the bat Fidel had been showing, i sent our pinch hitter in for some more punishment for their bowlers. It was going well until Fidel called the in form Ward through for a suicidal single and Ward was on his way back. Things went from bad to worst with our middle order dissapearing Jem, DeBeer, Fidel all falling quickly. Fitzy and Morls put on a handy partnership but it was all in vain as Angry pills was left on to finish his 10 overs and basically clean us up. So 159 was what we had to defend and like a true Kai Tak team we backed ourselves.
Unfortunately in my rush to escape i didnt get down our bowling figures which i will chase up. Anyway, our openers Morls and Mohsin took a few overs to get their line and then started getting through and eventually the pressure was paid off with Mohsin getting a wicket and Morls in his return spell just before drinks. Ward came on and bowled his nippy medium pasers and was not rewarded when yours truly dropped one of the simplest catches since Dave Ellis the week before, sorry Bob. It was to start a trend unfortunately with Fitzy not quite getting to one over his head, it was about 5 feet off the ground and Bob missing a very hard chance on the boundry, also Jem who was i guess ordering his drinks at the bar at the time judging by his response time also missed a difficult opportunity. We decided to try buy a couple of wickets and true to form Fizty with his first ball got a guy licking his lips only to hole out to Fidel at deep square leg. A few ball later another one came a cropper to the Fitzy flipper this time bowling the guy middle stump!
So we at least had the down 5 for and made us wonder what if....Maybe with 210 on the board we would have had them in alot of trouble. We were a bit short of our batting strength and it showed, however what batters we had could have shown alot more smarts (mainly me) and a score of 210 might have been achieved. But we do have these games, we always have, thankfully this time was against a formidable opponent. Lets bounce back against the Gap Ramblers in a couple of weeks, so far we are showing a very strong side so no excuses then.
Man of the match M.Brown.
Mug of the day S.Campbell.
Go the TAK!!!!!
Nuff said!
