Lads,

Tiku is in JoBurg so he has asked me to put together the match report. Not great reading unfortunately boys so I’ll try and keep it brief…….

Tiks won the toss and elected to bat. Off to a bad start with Doubleday out for 4, then quickly followed by Patidar and Campbell for 1 and 7. There opening bowler Imran creating havoc with our top order. Consolidation needed. Ellis joined Belcastro and combined well, with Dave eventually falling to a catch behind for 22. Mohsin can’t quite hang on till drinks and we are looking shaky at 5 for 90 odd. Farr arrives and takes to the bowling after the interval with a superb display of shot selection and boundary hitting. A rain interruption sees our innings reduced to 33 overs and with wickets in hand, we have a platform to build from. Runs come at a steady pace until Ellis is out for 42, Symington joins Farr and provides good backup, allowing us to reach a competitive 210 off our 33. Darren finishing on 82 n/o…..well done mate – a shame we didn’t go to 35, you may have squeezed out the ton!

That’s where the good news ends I’m afraid boys. The first few overs were a tale of woe! Full tosses, wides, fours and sixes sees Crusaders none for lots off not many. A couple of dropped chances and a contentious catch behind turned down (enough said on that matter!) saw us in big strife and in need of a miracle. The medium pacers were taken off and Ellis, Campbell and Patidar came on. These three took the pace off the ball, snared some quick wickets and consequently stifled the skyrocketing run rate. Things got just a fraction tight for Crusaders at the end, but the result was never really in doubt after our poor bowling display during the crucial early overs. Patidar finished with 2 for 26 off 5, Ellis 2 for 42 off 7 with the rest probably appreciating it if I don’t go into print with the figures. The only highlight being Scanlon trapped adjacent second ball by Tiks for a duck.

All in all a very disappointing day after we managed to post a reasonable target, after at one point looking like we would be skittled for 100 odd. With a fantastic bowling display against LSW last week, we just couldn’t manage to keep things tight two games on the trot. To be fair, we were certainly distracted and demoralised after ‘things’ didn’t go our way in the early overs……………..

Tiku will be back during the week for a league season roundup………..lets put the last few games in the history file and enjoy the 20/20 next month.
