Kai Tak CC vs. Pakistan Club @ Kai Tak 17 Sept.

The day started in a disastrous fashion with Chicky programming Ben’s Tom Tom, making 5 of us arrive late and Mohs forgetting where the ground was making him and Tiku arrive after the match started. Then the skipper finds out it was actually our home game so had to quickly arrange match balls food and drinks.

Pakistan Club won the toss and elected to bat. Chris Williams opened with the new ball minus 2 fielders and struck in his 2nd over forcing the batsmen to inside edge onto his stumps. Not to be out done Mitch Boss struck in his 2nd over with a good length delivery getting edged through to the skipper who took a nice low catch to his left, Mitch completed a good wicket maiden. At 2/14 after 4 and 11 players on the field was a good recovery. Mitch then had Rizwan caught well by Mohs in his 6th and last over. Carrying a neck strain Mitch bowled fantastically for the figures of 6 overs, 2 for 27.

Dwight and Fidel came on with some miserly bowling and the run rate dropping dramatically. Fidel bowled 3 overs for 13 and Dwight 4 overs for 14 both without any luck. Whitey and Chicky then toiled away with the ball while Pakistan were steadily accumulating runs. Nindy replaced Ben White and his first over was a fine maiden. In his 3rd over he struck and had their #3 caught behind by Mohs. This brought the Pakistan Skipper Aizaz to the crease who after a very slow start began increasing his run rate fairly quickly. In true Kai Tak fashion Aizaz, on about 30 runs, skied a Chicky delivery to Ben White at point who grassed a relatively straight forward chance and as usual we paid dearly for it with Aizaz carrying his bat to 105 not out. Dwight and Bob then came on for the final 7 overs with both claiming a wicket but with the Pakistan team swinging it was difficult to contain the flow of runs. In the end they made 7/206 after 35 overs.

Dwight and Mohs made a solid start to the Taks innings with Dwight uncharacteristically shouldering arms on the first 2 balls. The first boundary came in the 2nd over with a big six over Dwight’s favored cow corner, then the Pakistan team set a leg side field and tried bowling short, this was met with a four then a six. After a solid start Mohs was unfortunate to be caught at fine leg of some wayward bowling from Moiz’s first delivery. Tiku came in and hit the next ball brilliantly for 4 showing confidence and the Old Mr. Cricket were are accustomed to. In the same over after another 6 the Skipper went for one too many a skied a simple catch to Mid Off. This saw the run rate plummet with Dan Back making only one off 13 deliveries and Tiku keeping his head down to stabilize the innings but was unfortunately out for 21 in the 14th over. Bob was in and batting well until he was well caught for 11 and the Tak were reeling at 5/86 after 17 overs. Ben White came in and batted well blasting a number of fours and a big 6 until he was caught behind for a very handy 25. Chicky had fallen just before Ben for 6. Fidel managed to push around the ball supporting Willo who struck 3 boundaries in 4 deliveries until he lifted his head and was bowled. The Boss cracked a four from his first but was back in the hut for 5 and Nindy went first ball chasing a wide delivery well caught at point. Tak all out 148.

Uncle Russ Coffee Man of the Match was shared between Ben White (25 off 14 balls) and Paul Nind (4 overs, 1 maiden 1/16).

Other Notables: Mitch Boss 6 overs 1 maiden 2/27. Dwight Johnson 26, Tiku Paditar 21.

Thanks to Jon Whitehead and Bob Williams (Chris's Dad) for scoring and Jackie and Jasy for supporting.
